Hello and Happy New Year,

I would like some help to connect 4X50Watt 5 channel multichip led to controller. The parts i'm gonna use are the following:

1. 50W 50 Watt Full Spectrum 5 Channel High Power LED X 4pcs
2. Ldd-700H 5 channels LED driver Soldered on PCB Board X 4pcs
3. Switching Power Supply MEANWELL 200Watt 24V or cimilar X 2pcs (is there a better one?)

The question is that i don't know how to connect the leds to arduino so can i control each channel of 4 leds separately. My electronics are pretty basic so i will use a liitle help from a friend. Is there a diagram that we could use?(The simplest the better!). What other parts we gonna need?

Thanks in advance

Hi!

Welcome Dimitris!

There two problems with your hardware list.

1 - This LED doesn't allows individual control to channels, as you can see on bottom side all pads are linked.

Image

It should have a positive and ground to each channel like this:

Image

2 - As you can see in the specifications this LED works around of 34 V @500 mA so you should buy a 36V power supply.

Channel 1: EPISTAR ES-CADBV45P 45*45mil 4500K x 10 chips (32-34V 350mA-500mA)

Channel 2 : EPISTAR ES-CADBV45P 45*45mil 455nm Royal Blue x 10 chips (32-34V 350mA-500mA)

Channel 3 : EPILEDS EP-U4545K-A3 45*45mil 430nm Violet(UV) x 10 chips (32-34V 350mA-500mA)

Channel 4 : EPILEDS BH-R4242D-A1 42*42mil 660nm x 5 chips + Epistar ES--CADBV45P 490nm x 5 chips (27-29V 350mA-500mA)

Channel 5 : EPILEDS EP-U4545K-A3 45*45mil 410nm (32-34V 350mA-500mA)

The wiring is very easy when do you have the board in hands I'll show how to do.

This image doesn't allows see the names for connectors on top, on bottom have positive and ground to connect each LED channel.

Thanks for the quick answer!!!!!

Do you think something like this will do the trick? For LDD there are Ldd-1000H and Ldd-700H. Which one to buy? Is there something Extra e.g. resistors to buy?

Thanks again for the quick response!!!!!

Before buy the power supply and LDD you should select the LED and see the specifications.

The LDD model should be according to LED current if it works with 1000 mA should be LDD-1000H, if works with 700 mA should be LDD-700H.

See the specifications as I told.

SPECIFICATIONS:

Channel 1: 32-34V @ 350mA-500mA
Channel 2 : 32-34V @ 350mA-500mA
Channel 3 : 32-34V @ 350mA-500mA
Channel 4 : 32-34V @ 350mA-500mA
Channel 5 : 32-34V @ 350mA-500mA

For this LED should be LDD-500H

Hi!

You can use this LED, maybe there some error in your translation. What I can see is:

Each channel is individually addressable (they can be individually dimmed) so you can adjust the perfect color for your tank.

I can't point you a 50W LED I know only this models and are very expensive compared with this from Aliexpress.

Maybe your question was not well done.

Of course you can't control this LED directly with PWM for it is needed a driver to make the interface in this case the LDD that supports PWM control.

Yes, this PCB seems suitable.

PAY ATTENTION in this link the LDD driver is not included.

Talking about LDD driver see the LED specifications:

Channel 1 - 34V @ 500-700mA

Channel 2 -34V @ 500-700mA

Channel 3 - 34V @ 500-700mA

Channel 4 - 26V @ 500-700mA

Channel 5 - 34V @ 500-700mA

It can work between 500 and 700 mA but using the maximum current the life time of your LED will be decreased.

I think better use 500 mA (with LDD-500), the total power will be smaller but the life time will be bigger.

Don't forget that a step down between the power supply and LDD will be needed for channel 4 because the voltage should be 26V.

So, to conclude and start buying i'll need:

4 X leds
4 X Voltage regulator or this
4 X LDD board

I think that a board with 4 LDD should be better for you.

You can buy 5 boards and only 1 step down and connect like this:

4 x LDD board for channels 1, 2, 3 and 5.

1 x LDD board for all channels 4 with step down to adjust the voltage to 26V.

Remember LDD needs of 3 V to work so you should adjust the power supplies in 37 and 29V (34 + 3 and 26 + 3).

This step down is better because can work at 3A. For channels 4 will be needed 2A (4 x 500mA).

It's easy to assembly.

Not, you will have 1 LDD useless in each board only.

20 x 0,5 A = 10 A
